The Four Rs for MDs
Jim Stone, president of The Medicus Firm and president-elect of the National Association of Physician Recruiters, said that before diving into the job-seeking process, physicians should remember the “Four Rs:”
- Research: Perform online searches for job openings, competitive salaries, and so on.
- References: Set up three to five references in advance. While supervisors, senior colleagues and peers are preferable, a nurse or other clinician with whom you worked closely and who can speak to your bedside manner or interpersonal skills may also serve as a reference.
- Résumé: Ensure your CV is current, proofread and ready to submit to potential employers.
- Roundtable: Sit down with the family and determine what their needs are in a possible relocation. Set expectations so that involved family members are prepared for the future.
